Times of Change-Born on the Fourth of July,Stop the Sun, To Heal a Nation

Dear Vietnam Veterans,

As we continue to commorate you on Veterans Day and Memorial Day,we continue to cherish your fight in battle and outstanding nationalism. We appreciate your determination in Vietnam as many protests were going on back home over your position. When war in Vietnam was causing many problems at home you continued to fight for your country and risking your life for it. Family and friends were left back at home praying for survival of you and the country as battle deaths plagued the United States. You will never be forgotten and will always be remembered for your courage, determination, pride and devotion. There can never be enough appreciation shown for you, thank you.

Times of Change- The Gulf of Tonkin Resolution

The main thesis of the essay is how the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution dragged us into the Vietnam war and the problems it brought.
The Gulf of Tonkin Resolution was an approval by congress to protect the Gulf of Tonkin- the reason for this was to protect the US intrests in the gulf.
Using the critic's point of view the author shows his main point of how the resolution dragged us into war and how it still brings conflicts today. It also explains how Congress approved this document but never ended up declaring war.
It links to The Dubious Crusade because both end up badly and have the opposite effect of the intention. As in the Dubious Crusade it shows the breaking apart of the nation and in The Gulf of Tonkin Resolution it tells of the battle it lead to.

Times of Change- History

The overall theme of the poem is death. The poem discusses the killing between China, France, Vietnam, Annam, Japan, Britain, America and the USSR. All the killings relate back this main theme and the title of History.

Times of Change- A Dubious Crusade

Dubious Crusade=doubtful defensive agressive movement.

The American fight against communism failed miserably. Before the Vietnam War America had a lot of nationalism and confidence, due to this great loss they became unsure and their confidence shrunk. The war had been close to breaking America apart and confidence in the government also shrunk. 57,000 men lost their lives and the troops were wounded.

10 important things everyone should know about the Korean War

1. In June of 1950 as the result of North Korea (supported by the Soviet Union) attacking South Korea (supported by the United States), or crossing the 38th parallel, the Korean War began.
2. US troops made up most of the United Nations force and fought the most. They were led by General MacArthur.
3. As the war was ending, President Eisenhower said privately that he wasnted to use nuclear weapons and take the war to China.
4. All the fighting stopped and the war ended in 1953 through a cease-fire.
5. A new term called McCarthyism came about during the Korean War meaning reckless charges against innocent people. Joseph McCarthy was a politician who arroused many people about the fears of communism. As a result he searched and charged communist suspects.
6. The Soviet Union would battled the United States in another battle in an arms race. The two sides competed making nuclear bombs and other weapons. The US came up with an extremely destructive bomb called the H-bomb.
7. The United States and the Soviet Union got into another debate during the war. They were having another race, this time a space race. USSR won round 1 with the launch of Sputnik.
8. The Suez Canal was another place of contreversy in the Cold War. When the US and Britain cut off the aid for Egypt because of frustration towards the bond between Egypt and the USSR, Egypt ook the Suez Canal. When France, Britain and Israel all attacked Egypt the USSR threatened to support Egypt, resulting in the 3 backing down and ending it with a cease-fire.
9. China joined in on the war and took the side of North Korea (the communist side). When General MacArthur made a remark about a blockade around China and bombing, Truman fired him and sent him home.
10. Before going to "ease the tensions" with the USSR, President Eisenhower sent a spy plane over a couple of weeks in advance it was shot down but until the pilot was captured, Eisenhower wouldn't fess up.

Education Statistics

Due to the Civil Rights Movement and other work that has been done for minority groups, education statistics show improvement. While in the 1980's you see many more white people attending school then black by 39,422,000, almost 5 times as many of the black population enrolled. The hispanics only had 4,263,000 enrolled almost 10 times less than the amount of whites enrolled. Since then though, African American's enrollment rate has gone up 5.3 and the hispanic rate has actually gone down by 0.2. Since 1960 black high school graduates have qualdrupled, while Hispanics high school graduates have doubled. College graduates for black has sextupled while Hispanics college graduates have tripled. In terms of degrees, improvement shows however whites still dominate in the highest degrees of Professional, and Doctorate. In terms of eduacation for the younger population African Americans are not far behind in the readiness scale while Hispanics follow them not too much lower. The number of high school drop-outs has lowered, however whites have the least amount, blacks follow, then hispanics. In terms of receiving degrees. African Americans earning of these has raised while white's earnings slip a little. As there is much room to grow and continue spreading the ideas of desegregation will hopefully end the racism that is experienced however conditions have improved and the situations for African Americans and Hispanics seem optimistic and progressive.

MLK Essay Response

Martin Luther King was responsible for freeing whites of the years of dishonesty of race. MLK helped to make our nation a "free nation" as we began to become what we aspired to be when America was founded. King was suggested to be "the right man at the right time" as he lead his fight against segregation victoriously. He made up a very important part as a leader of the Civil Rights Movement. He was a genuine guy who protested and lead in a way that is unforgettable. MLK is considered to some, the most important person in the 20th century. A line from MLK's famous speech, "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character," is often quoted. I think MLK would be proud that his words are considered influential and important today, however, recently it has been used for those against affirmative action, which he would be upset about.
